The airplane scene was telegraphed way too much in my opinion, with the shock of finding out the chip was real on the plane being the only part that really grabbed me. and Lulas was kind of there but not really. The little shows at the end were okay but Atlas's was not believable. But, that second show in the first movie was made big by having a dramatic effect for the audience of the show. Stealing the chip was a little more fun and can be seen as more enjoyable in execution in contrast to the bubbles, rabbit, and fading numbers. But, lacked the sense of grandeur of robbing a bank from across the world in addition to the big trick reveal. I didn't feel the same about this movie and a lot of it comes from missing the sense of grandeur that the three shows provided in the first movie.īreaking into the Octo party felt like a heist, which wasn't poorly executed but did not feel exceptional. However it's very in the realm of possibility. I can't imagine it happening in the length of time considering every other trick takes a day or two to set up, comparatively. My main difficulty with this is how did they get that trapdoor there in the first place? I know they have a ton of resources and ridiculousness at their hands, but a public area having a sidewalk opened up and tunneled under to produce a trap door is pretty over the top. Add a little splash from him hitting and water, the trap door opening, and a little extra maybe to add to the effect, and you're good to go. Basically as he falls, the door opens (which in the dark and rain isn't too hard to conceal), and the clothes (which aren't his actual clothes but doubles) are left remaining on the ground. The magician's main tool for this is a good old trapdoor. The clothes appearing isn't a difficult ruse. The main problem is he just fucking fell through a sidewalk. It's not that it isn't real, it's just a stupidly difficult trick to perform in that short of time. If you didn't like the first movie, then you definitely won't like the sequel - just due to the first half. The survey above had the option of either recommending it or recommending it to people who like the genre/cast/first movie so I was very surprised that the latter option only had something like 30%. I really liked the first movie so this one gets a solid 6.5/7 for me. Plot holes galore but ehhh I watch movies to be entertained so I'm not going to bitch too much. Another way of looking at it is how the reveal at the end is with Daniel Radcliffe's ex-partner's being part of the Eye was able to make a good enough counterfeit but still doesn't explain 1) what happened to the chip they lost and 2) if they could make such a convincing fake, why take the risk. That's the only way I can see them having done it. Did the Eye take it? If so, then they got it back and that's the chip they gave Daniel Radcliffe only to magically pick pocket/plot device it afterwards. Anyway, the whole "omg we lost the chip!!" angle was kind of lost on me. I just watched the movie and was wondering the same (lol have a feeling you might have downloaded seen the same release as me.) First half was meh but I enjoyed the second half.
